MOUNTAIN BIKING: Kiddie Trail

← TN SINKING POND AEDC TN Single Tracks →

Description

Description
0 The trail begins across the Garden Road from a gravel parking lot, 200 feet from the gate to Reflection Riding. After a rocky stream crossing, the trail climbs steadily through a mixed pine and hardwood forest.
0.06 The trail intersects and begins to follow what appears to be an old wagon road which originates near the Nature Center.
0.16 Just before the trail crosses a small stream, another old road veers off to the left toward Garden Road below.
0.19 At the large boulder, bear right up the steep, rocky hill. A sourwood tree is on the immediate left as you pass the boulder. The elongated leaves, which turn a brilliant red in the fall, have an obvious sour taste. The small white flowers of the tree are used by bees to make sourwood honey, which is highly prized.
0.22 When the leaves are off the trees, the bluffs at the top of the mountain can be seen to the right. The trail is climbing steadily here.
0.36 Cross over an unmaintained Reflection Riding road which meanders downhill for nearly a mile to emerge on Garden Road. Tiny sassafras trees, easily recognizable by their variations in leaves, are very common here.
0.42 The Kiddie Trail intersects with the Skyuka Trail. Downhill, you are .42 miles from Garden Road. To the north it is 0.8 miles to the trailhead on Highway 318. To the south leads to Skyuka Spring, with connections along the way to the Cravens House, Point Park, and Reflection Riding.
